THE EARTH LEASE 

By completing this agreement, you agree to be a responsible and connected citizen for a period of one year.  It is the intent of the tenant to review this agreement annually. 

 

THIS AGREEMENT made today by you and between The Earth, herein called “Landlord,” or “Property” and you, herein called “Tenant.”

The Landlord hereby agrees to rent the Property to the Tenant for the period and conditions outlined in this agreement.
 

1. CONDITION OF PROPERTY

The Tenant hereby acknowledges that the Property is in poor condition. The Tenant agrees to lifestyle changes that will improve the Property condition.

2. TERM OF AGREEMENT

a. The Tenant agrees to lease the Property for a term of one [1] year, beginning from the date above and ending on the date listed above.

 

b. The Tenant agrees to the length of the term as this is the estimated time to make lifestyle changes and a difference.

 

3. RENT

The Tenant agrees to pay rent in the form of conscious environmental choices, that include consumerism, travel, personal care, food and social practice.

 

4. SECURITY DEPOSIT AND FEES

a. PREPAYMENT

i. At the commencement of this Lease, the Tenant will pay a Deposit in the form of installing a programmable thermostat, updating all lights to LED, purchasing a bamboo toothbrush, and carrying an eco-kit at all times. By the end of the lease term, the Tenant will redeem the Deposit in the form of a cleaner and more livable Property. 

 

ii. By improving the condition of the property, the Tenant recompenses their security deposit. Through improving the property, future generations will be entitled to sign their own Earth Lease. 

 

b. CLEANING FEE

i. The Tenant hereby agrees to ensure the cleanliness of the Property. This includes refraining from choosing single use plastics, recycling properly and keeping the Property free of cigarette butts, discarded coffee cups along with all other debris.

 

5. TENANT RESPONSIBILITY

a. Good housekeeping is expected and the Tenant agrees to support the use of renewable resources and sustainable products. 

 

b. The Tenant agrees not to permit any deterioration or destruction to the Property to occur while they are occupying the Property.

 

c. During the term of the lease the Tenant agrees to carpool, reduce air travel, and utilize mass transit.

​

d. It is the responsibility of the Tenant to support local businesses first.

​

e. The Tenant agrees to support companies with a strong green model and boycott other companies that fail to comply with this agreement.

​

f. The Tenant consents to disclose corporate practices that both help and hurt the conditions found in this agreement. 

​

g. It is the Tenant’s responsibility to continue to learn, practice, and share ways to improve the condition of the Property.

​

h. The Tenant is responsible to search for and gain inner balance and peace then share the formula with other Tenants.

6. RESPECT FOR NEIGHBOURS AND PROPERTY 

a. The Tenant is expected to not disturb animals and their habitats. 

​

b. The volume of human activity, logging, resource extraction, and development must be reduced on the Property. 

​

c. When the Tenant smokes, the Tenant is required to discard any cigarette butts responsibility and in proper fire proof receptacles.

​

d. The Tenant is required to follow all fire bans and during safe periods distinguish the fire properly after use.

​

e. It is advised the Tenant plants trees on the Property as well as assisting Neighbors close to extinction.


 

7. NO DANGEROUS EMISSIONS ALLOWED 

a. The Tenant must limit unnecessary use of carbon emitting vehicles, such as aircrafts, automobiles and trucks on the Property.

​

b. The Tenant agrees to investigate and acknowledge new technologies to reduce their carbon emissions to zero. 

​

c. The Tenant is requested to limit ingesting red meat or ocean life.

 

8. HOUSE RULES

a. The Tenant is advised to shop in bulk and supply reusable containers [subject to Covid-19 restrictions]. 

​

b. The Tenant agrees to use a bar of soap and refrain from any plastic vessels then choose a hand towel over a bath towel for drying.

​

c. The Tenant agrees to regulate the temperature and wear according clothing in the corresponding months.

 

9. REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE

a. The Tenant will comply and repair leaking faucets and broken weather stripping whenever necessary.

​

b. The Tenant agrees to repair any item damaged during the term of lease and not discard the item. 

​

c. When the item is unrepairable the Tenant is responsible to choose a replacement that is used and not new. 

​

d. The Tenant is responsible for ongoing maintenance that will ensure the longevity of the item therefore not resulting in repair or replacement. 

 

10. TENANT PRIVILEGES: 

The Landlord shall be responsible for the following utilities and services in connection with the Property.

a. Sunshine to nourish vegetation, power our appliances, and inspire personal happiness.

​

b. Rain to nourish vegetation, supply our lakes, rivers and reservoirs, and to temper forest fires.

​

c. Wind to power our appliances, cool the planet, and carry our hair in a midday breeze.

​

d. Clean oceans, lakes and rivers to provide a bounty of food and fresh drinking water, recreational activity, and long term environmental stability along with Tenant happiness.

​

e. Healthy forests, woods, and fields to provide long term environmental stability, hiking, connection with nature, responsibly sourced building products, and a home for the many Neighbors we share the Property with. 

​

f. An inner peace and indescribable happiness that is attributable to the Tenant accepting gifts, in lieu of taking, from the Landlord.

 

Accepted and acknowledged these responsibilities this day.
