“Off-Grid” isn’t about running away from society—it’s about running toward life.

I know I don’t often talk about the off-grid lifestyle here.

Most of what I share leans toward the inner journey—awakening, alignment, the unseen layers that guide us.

But here’s the truth:

Living off-grid is the spiritual path.

The first step on any awakening isn’t found in a book, a mantra, or a meditation room.

It’s found in reconnecting with Mother Earth—her rhythms, her cycles, her patience, her quiet teachings.

At Ketchum House, that connection is woven into daily life.

We heat with wood.

We burn, we chop, we stack, we tend.

It sounds simple—and it is—but it’s also intentional.

Because every log reminds us that warmth comes from work, comfort comes from presence, and the flame that keeps us alive is the same flame that lives inside us.

And now… I’m feeling something else.

A new chapter.

Next year, I turn 60.

I’m starting to feel the gentle whisper of what we might call “getting older.”

Not in a negative sense—just an honest one.

My joints speak a little louder.

My body asks for more care.

And I’m listening.

So I’m shifting my focus—

More muscle strength.

More endurance.

More honoring this physical vessel that carries the spirit forward.

Because my plan is simple:

Clock out at 99.

That gives me about 40 years to keep building, learning, and sharing.

To deepen the connection between living simply and awakening fully.

To show that “off-grid” isn’t about running away from society—it’s about running toward life.

So maybe I’ll start sharing more stories from the woodpile.

More lessons from the solar panels, the furnace, the forest paths, the quiet mornings.

Because the spiritual and the physical are not separate—they never were.

We awaken through our hands

just as much as through our hearts.

And I look forward to walking these next four decades—

stronger, slower, lighter—

with Mother Earth as my guide

and you beside me on the path.

Here’s to the next chapter.
